Food business owners -- beware of fraudsters operating in Brent |
The Brant Council is warning food business operators to be aware of two fraudsters who are visiting food business premises claiming that they are from the Food Standards Agency (FSA).
The fraudsters are both black men, one is 6ft tall and the other is 5ft 6 inches with dreadlocks. They claim that they are there to carry out inspections and then extract substantial amounts of money as a fixed penalty fee for the premises being allegedly unhygienic.
The FSA does not carry out food inspections and there are no fixed penalties for food safety breaches. All inspections are carried out by Brent's authorised inspectors, who carry relevant identification when visiting a food business.
If your food business is visited by anyone claiming to be from the Food Standards Agency, you must not give them money and contact the police immediately on 0300 123 1212 or Brent Environmental Health on 020 8937 5394.
