Major Harlesden redesign starts |

 Harlesden is a bustling town centre with a wide choice of eating, shopping, and leisure opportunities. But, the town centre also suffers from traffic congestion, parking problems, a poor pedestrian environment and a tired public realm.
Brent Council is now leading a community-led redesign of Harlesden's public realm to provide a high-quality environment to make the town centre a more attractive and user-friendly place. Funding in the region of £3million has been identified by Transport for London for these improvements subject to intital plans and the engagement process being approved. The Council has appointed the consultancy Urban Design Skills to manage a community engagement programme. They have been working with local people to hear their ideas on the town centre and develop a vision for the future. Key to this has been the creation of a 'Town Team' of Harlesden residents and businesses who will give their views, voice concerns, generate ideas and help make the town centre a more attractive, better place to work, live and visit. |

Harlesden Business Improvement Group |

The majority of Harlesden town centre businesses are small, independent operators with little time to attend meetings. To make sure they have a voice as well as make it easy for them to raise concerns and bring forward ideas, a new style membership organisation is being set up. Harlesden Business Improvement Group will use up-to-date internet networking tools ot allow members to pick up information, offer ideas, comment and communicate with other members at their convenience. Improtantly, members will be able to promote their business offer and as, well as networking facilities for those businesses, the site will allow community access to help promote the town centre and build local loyalty This innovative approach to business engagement was initiated by Town Centre Management and financially supported through Brent Council's Neighbourhood Working budget. We want to encourage local business-to-business trading and develop Harlesden enterprise. The aim is to promote the town centre offer and fully involve traders in improving the business environment.
